Medi-Cal Older Adult Expansion

As of May 1, 2022 Medi-Cal expanded the eligibility for full scope Medi-Cal to all individuals who are 50 years of age or older who meet certain eligibility criteria regardless of your immigration status.

Those who qualify for this “Older Adult Expansion”, will receive full scope Medi-Cal benefits which provides comprehensive health care including medical, dental, mental health, family planning, foot care, hearing aids and vision care. Including services to help you remain in your home, such as in-home support services if you need assistance with daily activities. Full scope Medi-Cal also covers treatment for alcohol and drug use, medicine your doctor orders and more.

Who will be impacted?

  • You may be eligible if you are 50 years of age or older, not currently enrolled in Medi-Cal, and meet all eligibility criteria for full scope Medi-Cal.
  • or if you are 50 years of age or older, and are currently enrolled in restricted scope Medi-Cal, due to your immigration status, before this expansion began.

Medi-Cal Adult Expansion Begins January 1st, 2024

On January 1st, 2024, Medi-Cal expanded their full scope coverage to undocumented adults between ages 26-49 years old. Regardless of immigration status, an individual is eligible for Medi-Cal as long as they meet the Medi-Cal income guidelines. Applying or using Medi-Cal will not affect your immigration status.
